Amidst the misty autumn mountains and under a canopy of grey skies, ARBI’s 12th annual CycleTherapy event unfolded along the Bow Valley Parkway on September 14, 2024. Though rain drizzled intermittently throughout the morning, the weather couldn’t dampen spirits. Instead, it added a layer of determination as cyclists pedaled through the cool air.  

This year’s event not only met but far exceeded expectations, raising an impressive total of $144,840—well above the original $60,000 goal. The outstanding efforts of 38 riders, powered by the enthusiastic backing of their generous donors, were key to this success. A special shoutout to Whitecap Resources Inc. for matching an employee’s fundraising total. Banff Cycle & Sport, the Choucair family, Grey Eagle Resort and Casino, and The Relaxing Wellness Company Inc. played essential roles in creating a memorable day. 

After the ride, the sun appeared, and the teams—Team Aisha, the Brain Injury Warriors, Bow Valley Stroke Support Group: Ride for Bud, and the Miles Support Team—gathered at The Lodge in Banff to rehydrate, enjoy a spread of delicious snacks, and exchange stories and lots of laughs.  

CycleTherapy is more than a fundraising event; it’s a celebration of camaraderie as cyclists come together for a shared goal of raising funds to support brain injury and stroke survivors. The joy of cycling may be at the heart of the event, however this annual fundraiser will bring smiles to individuals and families facing the challenges of brain injuries, offering them hope and support in their recovery journey through access to ARBI programs and services. 

These efforts have a profound impact on survivors’ lives. Each pedal stroke is meaningful, whether navigating mountain paths or discussing the best recumbent or e-bike setup; participants found common ground in both their love for the sport and their commitment to making a difference. The event was as much about community as it was about cycling, with friendships forming through a shared passion and purpose.
